Welcome to Part 3 of my local coffee shop series. I have tried my best to include coffee shops from all over the greater Kansas City area. This part of the series features coffee shops in Raytown, Lake Lotawana, Parkville and Lenexa. Stay tuned for Part 4 that includes some of my favorite local coffee shops.
Cuento Coffee — Raytown
This local roaster is located inside Crane Brewery in Raytown. It has a cute little space in the front of the building. We happened in early on a quiet morning, so it wasn't too busy yet. The coffee was delicious. Since we didn't stay long, we drank our lattes pretty quickly, I'd have to go back to give a more thorough review. However, I think it's definitely worth a stop next time you're in Raytown: 8/10. They're @cuentocoffee on Instagram.
The Lottie Coffee and Cone — Lake Lotawana
This spot is just a few minutes up the road from us, and I'd been dying to pop in. I got an iced vanilla bourbon latte, which I'm pretty sure ended up giving me a buzz. So definitely eat something beforehand or while you're enjoying this drink. My fiance got his usual SF vanilla latte, but was bummed we'd just missed out on the homemade cinnamon rolls. They serve Oddly Correct coffee. We sat down and played Connect Four at one of the tables while we enjoyed our drinks. I love this space because of all the natural light from the windows, and it has seating spanning the length of one set of windows. High marks for the atmosphere, but I'd need to try the coffee again: 7.5/10. @thelottiecoffee on Instagram.
Parkville Coffee — Parkville
We popped into this shop on the Fourth of July after we decided to venture up to Parkville for the day. It was our anniversary, and we both had the day off. I wanted to check out some of the local boutiques along Main St., and my fiance had never been to Parkville before. The plan was originally to stay for the fireworks, but we ended up calling it an early day when most of the shops closed shortly after lunch time. We ducked into the coffee shop when it started to rain. We enjoyed our usual lattes while we stayed dry and people watched out the front window. The shop was crowded with the holiday and the rain but not overly loud. We were still able to easily enjoy conversation without raising our voices. Definitely check it out next time you're in Parkville. Overall, I'd give this shop: 10/10. They're Instagram handle is @parkville_coffee.
Black Dog Coffehouse — Lenexa
My fiance looked this one up while we were over on the Kansas side one weekend. He picked it solely based on the name because we have a black lab. It's a cute little shop with plenty of seating. They serve Messenger Coffee. We sat at a quiet table off to the side and enjoyed our lattes. My fiance also enjoyed a pastry from Ibis Bakery, which has a location on-site. Since I eat gluten-free I rarely partake in any of the pastries even if one of the places we go has a gluten-free selection. I would give this shop: 9/10.
